An open house for local Boy Scouts is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Lincoln Park, where Scout troops will showcase various summer programs and provide campfire treats.

Activities include bow-and-arrow shooting. All boys in fifth grade and older, as well as their parents, are invited to attend.

Meanwhile, several Grand Forks community leaders -- all former Scouts -- have made public-service announcements to help promote the importance and wealth of experiences that come through Scouting.

Mayor Mike Brown made a PSA, as did Police Chief John Packett, District Judge Joel Medd and UND President Robert Kelley.

The Boy Scouts of America will celebrate the organization's 100th anniversary in 2010.
