ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- A 12-year-old boy pulled from a St. Louis Park Middle School swimming pool Thursday after a physical education class has died, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The newspaper quoted a statement Saturday from city spokesman Jamie Zwilling, who said the boy had died overnight. No other information was available.

Zwilling reported Thursday that the teacher pulled the seventh-grader out of the pool’s deep end just before 9 a.m. and began CPR. Police and fire personnel continued CPR on the boy, who was unconscious and not breathing, until Hennepin County paramedics arrived.

The boy was taken to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital and later to Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, the newspaper reported.
