BOWMAN, N.D. -- An 89-year-old Bowman man was killed when his 2010 Dodge Caravan collided with an eastbound train Thursday afternoon.
The driver, not yet named by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, was traveling north to a rural residence approximately six miles east of Bowman and failed to stop for a train crossing.
The BNSF Railway Co. train, bound from Forsyth, Mont., to Hettinger, struck the front of the man's vehicle, causing it to come to a rest in the southeast ditch along the train tracks.
Troopers said the driver was not wearing his seat belt and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The train conductor and engineer were not injured in the crash.
