Railway workers found a dead body in the Grand Forks rail yard Saturday morning.

"At about 7:30 this morning, BNSF personnel found a deceased body in the yard," said BNSF Railway spokeswoman Amy McBeth.

The body was near a yard track west of the Columbia Road overpass north of DeMers Avenue, she said. The person was not a railway employee and probably was not authorized to be in the yard.

"Any time someone is on BNSF property, it is trespassing," McBeth said. "It is illegal and it is extremely dangerous."

McBeth said the company suspended operations for more than three hours as police investigated.

McBeth did not say if the body was of a man or woman or if it had been struck by a train.

Grand Forks Police said more information was to be released Saturday afternoon.
