North Dakota State University's interim president may not come from the university or even from the state university system.
There are about 20 names on a list of candidates under discussion by the State Board of Higher Education, according to board member Mike Haugen. Of those, some are from NDSU, some from elsewhere in the state system and at least one outside the system, he said.
The board will meet today to hear Chancellor Bill Goetz's recommendation.
NDSU's current president, Joseph Chapman, had announced his resignation earlier this month as questions swirled about the cost overrun at his official residence. His last day is Jan. 2.
Also during the meeting, board Vice President Jon Backes will ask the rest of the board to request a state audit of the cost overruns at the presidents' homes at NDSU and UND.
