Some parts of the country have hurricanes. We have blizzards. And, here at the Herald, we name our blizzards. Since the 1989-90 winter, we've named 57 blizzards or storms. The most memorable of these is Blizzard Hannah, the final storm of the infamous 1996-97 winter that preceded the flood.
This season's first storm is named after UND volleyball's Alivia Fraase. Fraase, a freshman libero from Fargo, recorded 583 digs this year, the second-most in a single season all-time at UND. The Fighting Hawks made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament last Friday. Some parts of the country have hurricanes.
