FARGO -- North Dakota State has yet to play a league game, but the Bison are already getting major recognition in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. They were tabbed as the pre-season favorite.
NDSU got the nod over Northern Iowa and Youngstown State in a vote of league coaches and sports information directors and media outlets that cover the conference.
The Bison received 13 first place votes. UNI, the defending champion, got more (15) but NDSU amassed more points. Other first place votes went to Youngstown (1), Western Illinois (4) and Southern Illinois (2).
Individually, fullback Tyler Roehl, offensive lineman Keith Buckman, linebacker Ramon Humber, defensive lineman Joe Lardinois and safety Nick Schommer were all named to the league's pre-season first team.
