Ralph Engelstad Arena, UND's hockey venue, is upgrading its video displays after the old ones were partially damaged by the fire this summer.
The new displays feature double the resolution of the old and better contrast, according to REA spokesman Chris Semrau. They will be able to take full advantage of the arena's cameras, he said, though the images could be slightly better with new cameras.
Crews began installing the 9-foot-by-16-foot displays last week after clean up of the arena was completed.
The displays should be ready for the men's hockey game against the University of Regina Oct. 1. This weekend's women's hockey series against the University of Manitoba will have to go without live video and video replays.
A fire that started in a cluster of speakers hanging from a catwalk above the ice July 3 caused more than $1 million in damage, including one of the four video displays.

The display could not be repaired, and arena management elected to replace them all, according to general manager Jody Hodgson.
The old displays have been junked, Semrau said. Technology has advanced so much in the past 10 years that they've been in use that the remaining three displays either had practically no value or could not be sold easily.
