Benefit fund with $100,000 goal created for family of slain Fargo officer by police, city

FARGO -- The Fargo Police Department and the city of Fargo have set up a benefit fund for the family of slain officer Jason Moszer.

The Moszer Family Benefit Fund will be through Bell State Bank and the Impact Foundation.

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney said at a Friday morning news conference announcing the fund that any donations through this site will be nontax-deductible.

Moszer died Thursday after being shot Wednesday night in a north Fargo standoff. Moszer has a wife and two children.

“We will be generous to this family,” Mahoney said.

Pat Traynor, Dakota Medical/Impact Foundation president and CEO, said the benefit site  is safe and secure.

“We really want to reach out to the folks in this region to show the love to this family,” Traynor said.

Because the donations are going to an indvidual, the IRS does not allow for it to be tax deductible, Traynor said.

There will be a 2.9 percent credit card fee on the site, the same as what was charged during Thursday’s Giving Hearts Day, Traynor said.

“The goal is $100,000, but we’d like to see what the community can do,” Mahoney said.

“We would like this to be the site of choice,” the mayor added. “We trust the Dakota Medical Foundation.”

As a result of recent state changes, Mahoney said, the Moszer children will receive free tuition to any state college.
