BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A man who led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in his death Monday has been identified as Jared Robert Nash, 28, of Bemidji.
The Ramsey County medical examiner identified Nash, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a release from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Nash was alone in the vehicle, authorities said.
The BCA said law enforcement had been trying to locate Nash because of another pursuit Friday as officers tried to pull him over for driving after cancellation of his license. Officers discontinued Friday’s chase, deciding to attempt an arrest later, the release said.
Just before 2 p.m. Monday, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper spotted Nash driving more than 100 mph on County Road 23, the release said. Nash eluded the trooper, but a Leech Lake tribal police officer and Cass County sheriff’s deputies spotted him later heading west on U.S. Highway 2 near Norway Beach in Cass County.

The chase continued along Highway 2 with several agencies joining the pursuit.
The BCA said officers made phone contact with Nash and learned he had a gun. Nash stopped in Bemidji after hitting spike strips deployed on Highway 2.
The BCA said officers ordered Nash to exit his vehicle, after which they heard a single gunshot. Nash was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates no officers fired their weapons.
