A 6-year-old Bemidji boy was struck by a vehicle at 5:44 p.m. Wednesday while crossing Irvine Avenue North.

According to a report from the Bemidji Police Department:

Audra Allen, age and address not listed, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry north on Irvine when she noticed the boy. Allen slowed down, thinking the child might try to cross the street.

The boy looked both ways and then "darted" across the street, according to witnesses.

Allen applied the brakes and swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the boy, but struck him with the driver's side of the vehicle.

The boy landed in the southbound lane of Irvine.

The boy, taken inside a nearby residence after the accident, had an abrasion to his left arm.

Witnesses told police that Allen tried to avoid hitting the boy.

A family member told police that the boy usually crosses the street with an older brother.

The boy was treated and released at North Country Regional Hospital.

Allen was not injured. The vehicle was not damaged.
