DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Longtime Becker County Human Services Director Nancy Nelson resigned following a closed County Board session Tuesday.

She had been on paid administrative leave since Feb. 3, for reasons that have not yet become public.

The Becker County Board on Tuesday authorized board Chairman John Okeson to sign on behalf of the full board a negotiated separation agreement with Nelson.

The terms are outlined in the agreement, and will become public upon it being fully effective in 15 days, County Administrator Jack Ingstad said Tuesday.

The agreement resolves any present or future claims Nelson may have against the county.

“In addition, by resolving the differences between the parties, Becker County will alleviate future attorney fees and costs,” according to the minutes of the meeting. “This negotiated separation agreement will protect Becker County from any future potential claims.”

Attorney Mike Rengel, an employment law specialist with Pemberton Law Firm in Fergus Falls, and Becker County Attorney Mike Fritz were both at the meeting.
