A bear wandered into East Grand Forks this morning but was eventually chased out by police, according to Officer Kyle Steever .

He said that the bear was spotted coming out of the Red River near the Sorlie Bridge downtown around 8:30 a.m. “He must have came from Grand Forks if he came out of the river, he must have been looking for food or something.”

Officers followed the bear’s trail until they found it on the 900 block of Third Avenue Northeast, according to Steever. Using their squad cars, they corralled the bear through city limits and into the woods on the east side of town.

The bear was seen by many residents and police received quite a few calls about it.

“It’s very rare that we would see something like that. It’s the first bear my supervisor has seen in 25 years,” Steever said.
