Matt Bakke has won the post of UND student body president after student elections Wednesday.
Bakke, the former vice president, and his running mate, Grant Hauschild, received 1,443 votes.
Nearest rivals Sean Crawford and Seinquis Slater had 868 votes.
Bakke said he ran on a platform of making Student Government more effective and more personable, with more face-to-face meetings with constituents to understand what their interests are.
He said the connections he built as vice president will be useful within the university community, the city and statewide.

Some issues Bakke thinks are important to student that he expects to work on with Hauschild include freezing tuition, allowing student groups use of state vehicles, moderating the skyrocketing increase in parking fees and allowing Greeks to opt out of their housing contract with the university mid-year to move into Greek housing.
