Authorities ID 2 women killed in rollover near Hillsboro

Two women were killed in a rollover accident near Hillsboro, N.D., Saturday night, the state Highway Patrol said Sunday morning.

The Patrol identified the women as Mercedes D. Rowley, 23, of Sharon, N.D., and Teja R. Beyer, 21, of Red Lake Falls, Minn.

The driver, James G. Yahnke, 51, of Nielsville, Minn., was injured.

They were westbound on Traill County Road 17 just crossing the state line from Minnesota around 9:20 p.m. when their Dodge Charger left the road. It entered a ditch, struck a driveway and began to roll, striking another approach before coming to a stop.

The women were ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Police do not know whether they were wearing seatbelts.

The man was flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo. He was reported to have worn a seatbelt.

Yahnke was charged with driving under the influence. 

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
