A longtime volunteer and a group of middle school students have been honored with the Grand Forks Foundation for Education’s highest award for public service, the school district said Thursday.
Brenda Rosendahl and the student leadership group at Valley Middle School are winners of the 2014 Nelson-Miller Award, named in honor of Carlton Nelson and Don Miller, two of the foundation’s founders.
Rosendahl, a Red River High School parent, has “helped plan, cook, and serve dozens of team meals, chaperone numerous dances, and plan numerous events,” Nathan Olson, activities director at the high school, said in nominating her. She has also been president of the Red River Booster Club.
The Valley students, a group of about 50 students ages 11 to 14, have spent more than 400 hours volunteering at their school and around the community, their adviser Shana Lindeman said in her nomination.
