Area notables selected in NHL draft

Roseau (Minn.) Rams defenseman Aaron Ness and UND recruits Danny Kristo, David Toews and Corey Fienhage were all selected in the NHL draft on Saturday morning. Three other Sioux recruits went later.

Roseau (Minn.) Rams defenseman Aaron Ness and UND recruits Danny Kristo, David Toews and Corey Fienhage were all selected in the NHL draft on Saturday morning. Three other Sioux recruits went later.

Ness, a Minnesota recruit, went in the second round (No. 40) to the New York Islanders.

Kristo went later in the second (No. 56) to Montreal.

Toews went in the third (No. 66) to the Islanders and Fienhage in the same round (No. 81) to Buffalo.

Sioux forward recruit Brett Hextall, who was not ranked by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau, went to the Phoenix Coyotes in the sixth round.

Former Moorhead High standout Jeff Foss also went in the sixth to Nashville. Foss plays college hockey at RPI.

UND defensemen recruits Andrew MacWilliam (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Joe Gleason (Chicago Blackhawks) went in the seventh round.
