A woman who was injured while in a horse corral in Duluth Township was lucky Monday afternoon that emergency personnel in both an ambulance and helicopter responded to her call for help.
Both responded to the 4:50 p.m. call "as a matter of course," according to St. Louis County Undersheriff Dave Phillips. The helicopter was canceled at 5:28 p.m. because the ambulance was nearly there. At 5:29 p.m., however, the ambulance got stuck in a snow bank, Phillips said.
The helicopter was still close to the destination, 2027 Shilhon Road, and was able to pick up the woman at 5:33 p.m.
"The rural roads were awful, as were the driveways," Phillips said, referring to conditions after the weekend snowstorm. "With dual wheels on ambulances, it's easy to get stuck."

He said the woman's health was not compromised because with the helicopter pickup she ended up at a hospital even more quickly than she would have by ambulance. She was alert and conscious at the time and Phillips said he didn't know the extent of her injuries.
