Altru Health System hires

Dr. Bethany Gourneau has joined the anesthesia team at Altru Health System. She earned her medical degree from UND and a Master of Public Health degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. Gourneau completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Mo.

Dr. Daniel Persinger has joined the general surgery team at Altru. He earned his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, and completed his general surgery residency at UND.

Dr. Ahmad Qawasmi has joined the pediatric team at Altru. Qawasmi earned his medical degree from Al-Quds University, Al-Quds Faculty of Medicine in Jerusalem. He completed his residency at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. He then went on to join the pediatric hematology and oncology program at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

Altru earns designations

Altru Health System has been recognized by the North Dakota Department of Health as being a breastfeeding-friendly hospital and infant-friendly workplace. The health department determined Altru uses five evidence-based practices that support breastfeeding mothers, which are strongly associated with better health outcomes for mother and child.

Red Cross announces new officers

The American Red Cross of North Dakota has named two new officers to serve on the Dakotas Region team. Dawn Brossart will serve as chief administrative officer for the Dakotas and Idaho/Montana regions. Brossart formerly served as a contracts manager at Concordia College. Morgan Mairs will serve as the regional philanthropy officer for the Dakotas Region, which serves North Dakota, South Dakota and Northwest Minnesota. Previously, Mairs was the development coordinator for the North Dakota State University Center for Social Research and North Dakota Compass.
