The Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks will get a $1 million boost in its budget, according to an agriculture funding bill making its way to President Barack Obama's desk.
The announcement came from the state's congressional delegation, which also touted several other projects throughout the state.
In the bill is $10.5 million for the nutrition lab, allowing it to expand participation in the president's obesity prevention initiative. Obama sought the funding increase in his budget request.
The bill also includes:
- $3 million for the durum wheat program that fights scab.

- $1 million to North Dakota State University to conduct research on the best crops and techniques for biofuels.
- $700,000 to NDSU and Dickinson State University to improve detection of agricultural diseases.
- $350,000 for research on cultivation and uses of peas, lentils and chickpeas in North Dakota and four other states.
