FARGO - Conflicting information caused confusion for police and first responders Tuesday night after an initial report of a shooting in south Fargo.

Police have no reason to believe there were any shots fired or injuries, Fargo Police Sgt. Chris Helmick said.

Officers were first dispatched to the Royal Liquors at 2726 Broadway N. for the report of someone being shot and a number of suspects fleeing the scene.

That call was changed to the Royal Liquors location at 1550 32nd Ave S. and officers swarmed the area.

Multiple squad cars could be seen in the area and at least one ambulance responded.

Helmick said officers found nothing at either location and there was no threat to the public.

Police detained a juvenile female in the back of an unmarked street crimes task force van in the parking lot of Casey's General Store on the corner of South University Drive and 27th Avenue South, though Helmick didn't say what her connection was, if any, to the night's events.

Multiple plainclothes officers with bullet-proof vests were at that location, interviewing the juvenile, who Helmick said was a witness.

Helmick said the initial call of the shooting was possibly related to another event, though he couldn't give any information.

Asked whether the call could have been a hoax meant to divert police, Helmick said that was the "hunch" they were working off of.

Police were still at the Casey's General Store on South University at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
