Accused Freeborn County commissioner to resign

ALBERT LEA, Minn. -- A Freeborn County commissioner who has been charged with theft, racketeering and other felonies has announced that she'll resign Aug. 1.

ALBERT LEA, Minn. -- A Freeborn County commissioner who has been charged with theft, racketeering and other felonies has announced that she'll resign Aug. 1.

Freeborn County Administrator John Kluever tells the Albert Lea Tribune that officials received a resignation letter from Commissioner Linda Tuttle on Wednesday.

The letter simply stated that her resignation was effective Aug. 1. It didn't elaborate on her reasons, but Kluever says Tuttle may provide more information about her decision later.

On Monday, prosecutors charged Tuttle with 13 felonies, alleging she ran her title company, Albert Lea Abstract, as a criminal enterprise that stole more than $1 million.

A judge set conditional bail at $25,000. A county jail administrator says Tuttle bailed out on Tuesday.
