A 79-year-old Windor woman completed the climb up Huayna Picchu in Peru.

Annette Wanzek, with the help of Kari Novak of Fargo, was able to climb the mountain that overlooks Machu Picchu. Novak stayed with Wanzek, and they made the climb up Huayna Picchu together. The peak of Huayna Picchu is about 8,920 feet above sea level and is about 1,180 feet higher than Machu Picchu. Wanzek said the climb is different from mountain climbing.

“It is straight up and zig zags,” she said.

Wanzek said it was an “awesome experience” to climb Huayna Picchu.

“When you get to the top it is beautiful,” she said. “I am glad that I did that. It is a beautiful country.”
