A 2-year-old boy fell from a third-story apartment window at a UND apartment complex Tuesday, according to University Police.

Chief Eric Plummer said officers arrived on the scene at Carleton Court to find the boy inside with his family after falling from their apartment window with a screen in place. The toddler was taken to Altru Hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident is still under investigation and Social Services have been notified, but Plummer said that is normal for this kind of case and that no foul play is suspected.

But Grand Forks County Social Services Director Ed Christ said police notify his agency when they suspect abuse or neglect.

“Who knows what the situation is, but that’s our responsibility to investigate and determine whether or not the caretaker, which could be a parent, family member or babysitter, is providing appropriate care,” he said.

The apartment building is located off 42nd Street and the third story-windows are above grass.

UND issued a statement that said, “Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with the child and the family.”
