DEVILS LAKE -- Two women are behind bars after a 100-mile high-speed chase that involved them and a child ended west of here Friday morning.

The driver Loretta Vivier, 23, Bismarck, is accused of fleeing police in Ward County early Friday morning and, at the end of chase, trying to run an officer over.

The passengers are Lisa Anserson, 26, and her daughter.

Vivier faces felony charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, fleeing and possession of drug paraphernalia. Anderson faces felony child-abuse charges.

The chase came to an end in a ditch on North Dakota Highway 19.

Officers broke the window, reached in and tried to turn off the ignition, said Ramsey County State's Attorney Lonnie Olson. "The driver attempted to ram an officer and a patrol car. The officer had to jump out of the way onto the patrol car to avoid being struck."

A Devils Lake police officer suffered minor injuries in the incident and Anderson suffered injuries from shrapnel when police opened fire.
