ROCHESTER, Minn. — Following a surgery on Sunday, Kuwait’s 91-year-old leader arrived in Rochester on Thursday morning, presumably for follow-up treatment at Mayo Clinic.
An Airbus A340 owned by the Kuwait government landed at 10:08 a.m. Thursday after a direct flight that left Kuwait City at 3:11 a.m.
The state-run Kuwait news service reported that Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the emir of Kuwait, was traveling today “to complete his treatment after a successful surgical procedure.” There was no mention of where he would be treated.
Mayo Clinic has not yet responded to questions about Sabah.
The emir did have a surgery on Sunday, which his staff declared “a success” in media reports. Given that the same plane that landed in Rochester today was here last week, it is probable that the surgery occurred here.
Sabah has ruled Kuwait since 2006.
