GRAND FORKS — The city of Grand Forks continued to dig itself out Monday, Jan. 20, two days after its last major snowfall.
"I don't like it. Today it's OK, but it's better than the weekend," said Grand Forks resident Bernie Hougum while she took a break from shoveling.
During last weekend's storm, greater Grand Forks received another 5 inches of snow, bringing this year's snow total even higher.
The snow isn’t stopping in the Northern Valley. At the Grand Forks airport, about 52 inches of snow has fallen. That’s a foot and a half more than last year at this time and crews have already hauled thousands of truckloads out of town.
Grand Forks streets department crews are putting brine on the streets to fight the buildup of ice on the roads. With a break from the snowfall expected this week, they'll be clearing snow from corners to make it easier for drivers to see oncoming traffic.
In Fargo, 41 inches of snow has fallen so far this winter.
