6 Minnesota Guardsmen sent to Florida hurricane scene
ST. PAUL -- Gov. Mark Dayton on Thursday, Oct. 11, ordered six Minnesota National Guard soldiers and one helicopter to assist with hurricane relief efforts in Florida.
The team will support emergency response and recovery operations in the wake of Hurricane Michael, which made devastated Florida’s panhandle region when it made landfall on Oct. 1, according to a news release issued Thursday by the governor’s office.
A 12-member medical evacuation team from the Wisconsin National Guard is also on its way down to the affected region.
Its two Black Hawk helicopters are equipped with hoists to lift people out of high water.
