On Wednesday, area river is expected crest 46 feet higher than its normal level.

Benning said animals are doing everything they can to get to safety.

"Cars, porches, they're trying to get out of the water. Where we got dogs from yesterday, we came back today and it was three feet higher. All they're doing is trying to find dry ground,” Turtle Mountain Animal Rescue founder Keith Benning said.

Benning plans to be there for a week, but could extend his stay.

He said it's unclear if he'll be bringing back any of the animals with him.
