GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office is asking drivers to be extra careful on the road as winter weather moves into the area and creates slippery road conditions.

With the first winter storm already hitting the Dakotas, the sheriff's office recommends commuters give themselves extra time to get to work. Road officials said they won't be putting any deicer on the roads ahead of the storm as rain will likely wash it away.

"I think everybody forgets what it's like to drive in snow, wind and icy conditions," said Grand Forks County Chief Deputy David Stromberg. "We would again reiterate that everybody takes their time and slows down."
