Engineers discuss downtown curb extensions
GRAND FORKS, ND--If you’ve driven through downtown Grand Forks lately, you’re probably familiar with the red bumpouts lining the curb.
Engineers say they believe the city should keep the extensions along Demers Avenue downtown, but NOT those along the Demers and 5th Avenue intersection.
While there has been some pushback from the public, they say the bumpouts could boost pedestrian safety without slowing down the traffic flow.
"People have an opinion as one way or another and I think until we actually try them out, you won't know how well they work,” said Grand Forks Assistant City Engineer, Mark Walker.
On Monday evening, the city council is expected to vote on whether or not to move forward with the plan.
