Gov. Doug Burgum signed an executive order on Tuesday, July 16, issuing a waiver of hours of service requirements for drivers of commercial trucks who haul fly-ash and cement to aid in the completion of infrastructure projects in North Dakota, including the Williston airport.
Late spring and early summer flooding, which disrupted the delivery of goods used in construction is the reason behind the waiver, with the executive order noting: “The Williston airport is vital for the economic success of the northwest North Dakota.”
The order further stated the completion of the airport will further expand the transportation capacity of the Bakken region, which is an important driver of the state economy.
The waiver is in effect for 30 days, through Aug. 14. All other road safety regulations still apply and will be fully enforced.
