Construction on DeMers Avenue is nearing an end, but the Third Street intersection closed Thursday, Oct. 10, for the third phase of the project, according to a press release from the city.

The project began in May and is expected to be complete by mid-November, though weather could cause delays.

The third phase will reconstruct the sidewalks and the north side of DeMers Avenue from Third Street to the Sorlie Bridge. A press release from Strata Corporation said downtown businesses are likely to be impacted the most during this portion of the project because sidewalks will be torn up and repoured. Some businesses will direct customers to rear or side doors while the work is ongoing, the release said.

Two-way traffic will be opened from Sixth to Third streets and a temporary traffic signal will be posted at the Fifth Street intersection. Traffic cannot turn left while driving on Fourth Street or cross the intersection.

Drivers will be able to cross the Sorlie Bridge, but traffic will narrow to a single lane with two-way traffic controlled by a temporary signal.

Parking is not available on DeMers Avenue from Sixth Street to the bridge, and Riverboat Road is closed.
