ROCHESTER, Minn. — A 84-year-old woman died Monday morning, Oct. 26, after police said she left her assisted living facility in the early morning hours and was found by a southwest Rochester resident lying in the snow.
Rochester police were called at 7:50 a.m. to the 300 block of Highland Court Southwest by a homeowner. The man told police he found the woman lying in the snow near his garage and she appeared to be dead, Capt. Casey Moilanen said.
Members of the Rochester Fire and Police Departments responded along with Mayo Clinic Ambulance. The woman, identified as Marian Keefe, was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys where she died. Police said there was no evidence anything happened to Keefe and that she likely died of hypothermia.
It is unclear how long Keefe was lying in the snow, but she was seen on surveillance video leaving Shore Commons Assisted Living Complex, where she lived, at 2:36 a.m.
Police said the woman had been recently experiencing memory issues, but was not in the facility's memory care unit.
