One dead after crash in rural Pennington County, Minn.

One person is dead after an accident Saturday night, Dec. 21, in rural Pennington County, Minn.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Gary Irven Austad, 58, of Lake Bronson, Minn., was northbound on Pennington County Road 22. The Cherokee did not stop for a stop sign where the road intersects Highway 1, and it and collided with a 2011 Chevy Traverse. The Jeep rolled into the ditch and Austad died on the scene.

According to the State Patrol, alcohol was a factor and Austad was not wearing a seatbelt.

There were non-life-threatening injuries to a 31-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy in the Traverse. They were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not involved, according to the State Patrol.

The incident occurred at 11:23 p.m. Saturday.
