Occupants of a Grand Forks apartment unit were unharmed after improperly disposed-of smoking materials ignited a structure fire Tuesday morning, Nov. 10.
Fire crews were dispatched to an apartment complex at 2403 27th Ave. S. at about 7:16 a.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Grand Forks Fire Department. When crews arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from a second-story balcony.
The fire was extinguished and damage, which is estimated at $10,000, was contained to an exterior wall. Occupants were allowed to return to their home by 10 a.m., the release states. No injuries were reported.
The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to the fire with five engines, one truck, one command vehicle and 18 personnel. They were assisted by Grand Forks Police, Altru Ambulance and Elevate Living property management.
The release also urged residents to dispose of all smoking materials properly in a non-combustible container.
