PINEWOOD, Minn.  -- A rural Pinewood man died Thursday after a fire broke out in the living room of his mobile home, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

Erich Schissel, 56, was found dead in the home about 20 miles northwest of Bemidji, after firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Deputies and firefighters from the Solway Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 call reporting the fire at about 5:57 a.m. Thursday. They arrived at the home to find it “fully engulfed” in flames. Neighbors used garden hoses to try to put out the fire, as they believed Schissel was still inside, the release said.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal are investigating the fire to determine the cause.
