GRAND FORKS — A dead man was found in a downtown Grand Forks alley Thursday afternoon, but the person has yet to be identified.

Grand Forks County’s coroner is examining a body in the alley that abuts DeMers Avenue between North Third Street and North Fourth Street. Grand Forks police were called there around 12:15 p.m. and have since blocked off the alley.

It's unclear if the body is Anthony Valdez, a 26-year-old who was last seen leaving a downtown Grand Forks early Sunday morning. Lt. Andrew Stein, a police spokesperson, said authorities expect to identify the body by the end of the day.

"We do appreciate all the community's help and prayers," Valdez's father, Efrain, told WDAY News. "We read through all the comments and are in awe of all the support."
