GRAND FORKS — The dead man authorities removed from a downtown alleyway on Thursday is Anthony Valdez, police confirmed on Friday, Feb. 11.

There were no “obvious” signs of trauma, Grand Forks Police staff wrote in a press release. The cause of Valdez’s death has yet to be determined.

Valdez, 26, was last seen early Sunday morning heading north from Level 10 bar on North Fourth Street in downtown Grand Forks. Police and a regional SWAT team searched the nearby Greenway earlier this week and asked residents north of downtown to search for signs of the erstwhile missing man.

The alley where Valdez’s body was discovered sits halfway between 3rd and North Fourth Street, about 100 yards from the bar itself.
