Pop-up construction to demonstrate downtown development ideas
GRAND FORKS, ND--Next week you can get a sneak peek of some potential changes to downtown Grand Forks.
On Wednesday, July 18, the city is installing some temporary curb extensions, new benches, and crosswalks.
The pop ups will be in place for about a month.
You'll be able to see these around 3rd Street & Demers and 3rd St & Kittson Avenue.
3rd street from Demers to Kittson will be closed next wednesday, while the pop ups are installed.
While the pop ups are up, the city will be doing traffic and pedestrian studies.
They hope it will give them a better idea of which options work best for the city.
"We just don't want to be complacent. We always want to be trying new things and testing them out, and see what works, see what doesn't work. And without a little trial and error, you'll never know exactly what the community needs and the community wants,” said Grand Forks City Planning Intern, Spencer Halvorson.
The city is hoping to try other pop ups throughout the city in the future.
