FARGO - Drivers can now forgo long lines for a quick stop at a new kiosk in north Fargo to renew their vehicle registration.
A self-service terminal kiosk is located at the Fargo Stamart, 3500 12th Ave. N., and is available 24/7 for residents needing to renew their motor vehicle registration.
The kiosk came to Fargo following a yearlong pilot program in Bismarck that began in December 2016.
With the success of that program, the North Dakota Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) decided to expand the operation, according to MVD Director Lindi Michlitsch.
Another kiosk is now available in Grand Forks, and there are plans to establish other terminals in North Dakota cities including Williston, Minot and Dickinson.
If the kiosks in Fargo and Grand Forks are successful, more terminals will be opened, Michlitsch said. But the MVD will wait a year to see how people respond to it.
The kiosk takes registration information and prints off a renewed registration form with license tabs immediately. The terminal, however, cannot register new vehicles, and those motorists will still need to go to a MVD office.
The goal is to provide an easy and convenient process for drivers, Michlitsch said.
