Journalist Pamela Knudson will cover the Grand Forks Senior Center's sharp rise in the number meals it is providing to elderly people. In the month since the center shifted solely to drive-thru pickup and home delivery, about 10,000 meals have been provided, compared to the roughly 4,000 per month before March 17. The “frail elderly,” the most vulnerable of residents, “are our first priority,” said Jami Schumacher, and the main goal is to keep them out of grocery stores as much as possible.
Knudson also will provide details on the Salvation Army's Virtual Walk for Good event to raise funds for COVID-19 relief. Leaders are asking people to take a 1-mile walk in their neighborhoods anytime from Friday to Sunday, April 24-26, to benefit the Salvation Army’s efforts to provide food and care for people struggling during this public health emergency.
Finally, crime and courts reporter Hannah Shirley will sit in on a forum to be held with North Dakota presiding judges where local attorneys will be invited to ask questions and air concerns about the pandemic.
Looks for these stories and more online on Friday and Saturday.
