Grand Forks Public Schools opened the Mentor Center this week on the UND campus for any student -- in kindergarten through grade 12 -- who needs tutoring help, counseling or just the chance to hang out with other students in a safe environment during the pandemic.
Reporter Pamela Knudson spoke with school district administrators who indicated they hope that full-time distance-learning students, who are craving interaction with teachers and other students, will use the walk-in services available in the facility.
“We know that the pandemic has been a strain on everyone -- on academics as much as on physical health,” said Robin David, who began her work as director of the Mentor Center on Jan. 4.
The North Dakota Department of Commerce will soon begin to accept applications for the latest round of grants designed to support businesses in the hospitality industry.
Business journalist Adam Kurtz reports the online application portal for the second round of the Hospitality Economic Resiliency Grant program will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Feb. 25. The federally funded program will draw from a pool of about $30 million to provide grants to hospitality businesses that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
