Reporter Pamela Knudson delves into the approval, by the Grand Forks School Board, of the 2020-21 District Budget and Tax Levy document, which shows a nearly $1.25 million increase in the deficit compared to a preliminary budget approved by the board in late July. The school district anticipates a $5.7 million deficit budget this fiscal year, with COVID-related expenses being cited as major causes for the increase. The document, approved by the school board on Monday, Sept. 28, must be filed with the county auditor by Oct. 10.

In other news, UND Law School student organization is bringing the “Wild & Scenic Film Festival” to Grand Forks this fall. Knudson will report on the details.
