Fire crews responded to Grand Forks’ J.R. Simplot facility on Gateway Drive shortly before noon Monday in a fire that did not cause any injuries. At least four engines and an ambulance were on the scene, where Simplot employees waited outside as firefighters worked.

Rick Aamot, a battalion chief with the Grand Forks Fire Department, said the fire occurred in a cooking container, caused minimal damage and was extinguished by sprinklers within 15 minutes.

The fire occurred almost one year to the day that an equipment fire brought crews to the same location, leaving one firefighter with non-life-threatening injuries.

J.R. Simplot processes potatoes at its Grand Forks location, producing french fries, hash browns and other products.
