UPDATE: Investigators hope to get inside the partially collapsed warehouse Wednesday morning after fire crews worked overnight to put out hot spots.
3G Venture houses servers used for data mining and had opened in the summer of 2018 at its location across from the state mill.
The Grand Forks Fire Department learned of the fire before 9 p.m. Tuesday after dispatchers got a call from someone driving by the fire.
Crews had a difficult time reaching the fire initially due to security fences around it and eventually resorted to using bolt cutters to get to the business.
It took crews an hour and a half to control the fire because they could not safely enter the building as the roof had partially collapsed by the time they got to it. No firefighters were hurt.
A supervisor with 3G Venture said they were the last to leave the building at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
GRAND FORKS — Crews continue to battle flames at a partly collapsed warehouse near the North Dakota Mill and Elevator in Grand Forks.
Fire fighters have been battling flames at the building since around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The building houses servers used for data mining and block-chain technology, which can be used to mine cryptocurrency like bitcoin. A business opened the operation in the building last year.
Crews had to cut through security fences to get in and had a hard time finding fire hydrants. They are now working to put out hot spots.
Every fire truck in Grand Forks was been called to fight the fire.
