A Fargo woman is facing multiple charges after fleeing from law enforcement at a high rate of speed near Devils Lake Tuesday, July 27.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., a North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper reported seeing a motorist, Kaitlyn Kleven, 23, who was speeding at 93 mph in a 70 mph zone about 7 miles east of Devils Lake. The vehicle was driving westbound toward Devils Lake. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle for speed and the vehicle continued west, picking up its speed to 105 mph.
According to a Highway Patrol report, the vehicle also crossed into the eastbound lanes at 105 mph. The trooper disengaged the pursuit west of Devils Lake and the vehicle continued westbound at a dangerous rate of speed into the city of Devils Lake. After the pursuit was halted, the vehicle crashed into a light pole at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Fifth Avenue Southeast.
Both the driver and a passenger were taken into custody. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, aggravated reckless driving and for an outstanding warrant. The passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The case is still under investigation by the NDHP.
