The Grand Forks School Board will meet in a special session at noon, Friday, Aug. 20, to discuss the Smart Restart plan, including the school district’s protocols regarding mask-wearing and close contact cases, for the upcoming school year.
Public comment will not be permitted, according to the district office.
Recent trends in local public health data about COVID transmission have warranted the special session, Superintendent Terry Brenner said.
According to CDC transmission indicators, Grand Forks County has moved from a “substantial transmission level” to the “high transmission level,” the Grand Forks Public Health office has reported. The high transmission level is the highest of four threat levels established by the CDC.
The district’s Smart Restart committee, which meets weekly, includes school administrators and public health officials. It is tasked with monitoring public health data and formulating the district’s response to pandemic challenges in the schools.
The board session will be held at the Mark Sanford Education Center, 2400 47th Ave. S. The meeting will also be available on the district's YouTube channel.
