A recent University of Minnesota Crookston graduate has been recognized for advancing equity, diversity and inclusion across the University of Minnesota system.
Rose Kanssole, a 2020 agricultural business graduate, was honored during a virtual Equity and Diversity Spring Convening on May 20. The celebration included alumni, donors, community organizations and corporate entities, in recognizing the students, staff and faculty that exemplify the University's commitment to equity and diversity.
At the event, Kanssole was presented with the Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity Award.
“It’s a privilege for me to be a recipient of this award; it actually shows me that my work in diversity was not plain, but it impacted the college life of my fellow international students,” said Kanssole, who is from Burkina Faso, in West Africa.
In a news release, Rae French, UMN Crookston Learning Abroad Advisor said Kanssole would frequently help other students celebrate their cultures, through cooking food or attending dances. French said working with students like Kanssole help internationalize UMC.
“Rose, who has a smile that lights up a room, is always positive and the kind of friend that students of all backgrounds gravitate toward,” said French.
