Thirty area high school seniors are among 175 students selected statewide to the 2021 North Dakota Class A and Class B Academic All-State Teams.
In the Class A division, Grand Forks Central High School students Dennis Du and Stella Niemeier are among 11 North Dakota students who have been named to the Academic All-State Gold Team, and Sydney Kouba has been named to the Gold Team Honorable Mention category.
Jakob Stevenson and Adam Swartz, at Grand Forks Central High School, are among a dozen students statewide who have been named to the 2021 Class A Academic All-State Silver Team.
Also in the Class A division, at Devils Lake High School, Jacob Vaagen has been named to the Silver Team Honorable Mention category, and Barrett Connor and Molly Black have been named to the Bronze Team Honorable Mention category.
The program is sponsored by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals and WDAY-TV in Fargo, KBMY-TV in Bismarck, KMCY-TV in Minot and Forum Communications Company.
Student selection is based on overall grade point averages, ACT or SAT test scores, extracurricular activities, community involvement and leadership qualities.
For the Class B Academic All-State Team, the 10 students selected to the Gold Team include Cole Wentz, Maddock, and Ellen Gregoire, Larimore. In the Gold Team Honorable Mention category are Kylie Hartje, Grafton, Dylan Enger, Hatton, Cole Hendrickson, Lakota, Emma Thorsgard, Northwood, Hailey Ernst, Thompson, Dustyn Nelsen, North Star, Cando, and Natalie Hunter, Cavalier.
Among the 10 Silver Team statewide members are Rachaele Soderman, Midway, and Claire Dummer, North Border-Pembina. In the Silver Team Honorable Mention category are Kirklan Grenier, Rolette, Robert Dibble, Rugby, Luke Dryburgh, Hillsboro, and Miriam Carignan, North Border, Walhalla.
The 11 Bronze Team members include: Liberty Cleveland, Langdon, Grace Johnson, Park River, Signe Ekman, Grafton, and Grace Koshney, May-Port CG. In the Bronze Team Honor Mention category are Jake Doll, Finley Sharon, Cassie Longnecker, New Rockford-Sheyenne, Blake Hanson, Dakota Prairie, Petersburg, and Heather Okeson, Edmore.
High school seniors are nominated by their school principals and compete for the honor on a statewide basis in Class A and Class B divisions. Students who are selected will receive a certificate of merit from the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals.
A video honoring all the Gold, Silver and Bronze team members will be produced by WDAY-TV and presented by WDAY-TV and Forum Communications during the North Dakota Class A and B boys basketball tournaments in March.
